No Child Goes Hungry (NCGH) is pleased to provide a $1,300 donation to support So What Else, Inc. (SWE), a non-profit organization whose primary goal is to expand after-school and summer programs to children who do not otherwise have access to extracurricular enrichment activities. The donation from NCGH will help support SWE’s current hunger-relief efforts. With regular out-of-school programming halted due to the COVID-19 crisis, SWE is currently devoting 100 percent of its internal staff and resources to emergency food, sanitation supply, and educational material distribution to children and families living in 30 underserved communities across the greater Washington DC area.
Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, SWE has stayed true to its mission of serving children and promoting volunteerism,” said SWE Executive Director Dave Silbert. “SWE hopes that while we can’t fulfill our goal of keeping kids off the streets, that we can keep their basic needs met by providing food and sanitation supplies, in addition to providing educational materials to keep their minds engaged in learning. Thanks to the support of organizations like No Child Goes Hungry, SWE can continue to show up for our underserved communities by operating as emergency food and supply relief.”
SWE’s work is helping to ensure that 3,000 families in the Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC area have food security for at least three meals per week during the COVID-19 crisis. SWE’s ongoing hunger-relief efforts will also include the building of a Little Free Pantry in Rockville, MD. NCGH’s donation will help support the construction and initial stocking of this crucial hunger relief tool.
It is in no small part thanks to the efforts of organizations like SWE that families in need will make it through the COVID-19 crisis healthy and well,” said NCGH Founder and Director Kären Rasmussen. “I applaud the critical work that SWE is doing for its community. No Child Goes Hungry is pleased to support its efforts and to see yet another organization establish a little free pantry for the ongoing community support of those in need. These small little boxes are powerful tools to help us achieve our goal of ensuring that no child goes to bed hungry. Let’s feed some kids!”
