No Child Goes Hungry (NCGH) is pleased to donate $2,000 in grocery store gift cards to the Assistance League of Northern Virginia. The gift cards will be used to support its Weekend Food For Kids (WFFK) program, which provides weekend snack bags to food-insecure children at six Title 1 schools in Fairfax and Prince William Counties and the City of Alexandria, Virginia. The funds will support the WFFK program at Pine Spring Elementary School in Fairfax County.
According to Elizabeth Parks, Assistance League of Northern Virginia President, since the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for hunger relief efforts for Northern Virginia families has been immense. It has forced the Assistance League of Northern Virginia to find innovative ways to continue offering its WFFK program.
“Since schools closed due to the pandemic, we have continued to meet the need for weekend meal support by providing $20 grocery store gift cards to the liaisons at our schools, and they distribute them to their neediest families,” said Parks.” Once schools re-open, we plan to return to providing the snack bags.”
For No Child Goes Hungry Founder and Director Kären Rasmussen, supporting hunger relief efforts for children in her home Fairfax County is especially meaningful.
“It’s very meaningful to me to be able to provide so many gift cards for the Pine Spring Elementary School, which is only about four miles from my house,” said Rasmussen. “I’m grateful to organizations like the Assistance League of Northern Virginia that are incredibly intentional in helping kids get enough to eat in their communities. Our local philanthropic organizations know exactly who needs help and how to get them meals with no delays or logistical barriers. They are truly making an impact every single day in the lives of families in need.”
