No Child Goes Hungry (NCGH) is pleased to donate $2,000 to Free Food Harlem, an initiative of Unconditional Freedom. Free Food Harlem serves restaurant-style meals to those who could use extra love and nourishment — from people without homes to prison residents and officers to those affected by natural disasters and neighbors in the community. Guests come and enjoy the deep nourishment of meals cooked with love and care and get the experience of being served, something typically only accessible to those with high incomes. The organization serves over 600 healthy and delicious meals weekly to those in need in Ukiah, CA, and Harlem, NY. NCGH’s $2,000 donation will help fund Free Food Harlem’s weekly meal program in Harlem.
“We serve guests with tablecloths and fresh flowers in vases and give them options for food and drinks so they can feel the dignity of being served,” said Caryn Roth, a representative from Unconditional Freedom. “We currently spend $200 to $250 weekly on fresh vegetables, which feed 500 families and community members in Harlem. No Child Goes Hungry’s grant is providing us with at least two months of meals — about 4,500-5,000 meals.”
No Child Goes Hungry Founder and Director Kären Rasmussen says that the battle against hunger in our communities requires innovation, passion, and a relentless commitment to continually support those families struggling to consistently put food on the table.
“Childhood hunger is a global challenge, but the greatest impact, in many ways, is made by non-profits, grassroots organizations, and other philanthropists executing hyper-local support models,” said Rasmussen. “I am grateful for the tremendous work that Unconditional Freedom is doing to support those individuals living on the margins of society. It is a privilege to partner with this outstanding organization.”
